Bonsai (BONE-sigh) is a thousand year old Japanese art form using trees grown in containers that provides primarily contemplation for the viewer, and the pleasant exercise of effort and ingenuity for the grower. Dean Bull of Traverse City has been a Bonsai artist since 1989 and past president and vice-president of Sakura Bonsai Society of Northern Michigan, as well as a bonsai consultant for Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids.
